Misty Mountains

This hidden gem slightly off the beaten track close to Stanford just 15 km east of Hermanus is now a small boutique winery that makes sought after award-winning wines.

Misty Mountain was bought by the current owner in 2004. The farm is merely 4 km from the sea and was at the time operating as a fully functional tomato farm. The current owner seeing an opportunity as well as following up on a hunch had soil samples taken and thought that he had found the perfect site for a successful boutique wine farm. He has subsequently been proven right and Misty Mountain Estate is prospering with every passing vintage.

In 2005 vines were planted, the two varietals identified to put the Estate on the map were Shiraz and Sauvignon Blanc. The first vintage gave fruit in 2009. The farm comprises of 46 hectares of which currently 15 hectares are under vine with a view to expanding in the next few years as demand for these quality wines increases. The soil composition is made up of eleven different components all of which add complexity to the wines grown on the estate and give the wines balance, fruit, body and above all finesse. Quantities are limited with each vintage so we are extremely happy to add these wines to our portfolio for the UK market.

Misty Mountains is one of the elite working farms situated in this cool climate area. The gentle sea breezes as well as long cooler summers all add to why the estate is making such intriguing sought after wines.
